We would like to wish all the readers of our blogs a very happy season’s greetings and a prosperous New Year. We should also like to thank all our clients who have bought prints from the gallery in 2012 for their support.

We open 2013 on the 4th of January with a sale show from the archives. Included in the sale show is this wonderful (and seasonal) Hiroshige snow scene reduced from £1850 to £1295 and this very fine print of Omori Hikoshichi, from Yoshitoshi’s masterful series, New Forms of the 36 Ghosts. Prints in this exhibition will have a 30% discount for Newsletter subscribers. The Newsletter goes out on the opening day of our new exhibitions (every six weeks). There is no other promotional material and we operate a secure data policy on everyone’s details. Subscribers enjoy discounts on each show and get first choice on new prints.

Following the January sale we are opening the New Year with an exhibition: Ukiyo-e Images of Women I followed in March by Ukiyo-e Images of Women II. The first show looks at portrayals of women in Japanese prints – heroines and villains from history and contemporary beauties and working women. The second show looks mainly at Onnagata – male actors of the kabuki stage in female roles or actors portrayed as heroines of the past.

We launched the new site Kunichika.net during 2012. This is a reference site for Kunichika  print series. The framework of the site is now in place along with references to nearly all Kunichika’s great series. In the New Year we shall upload a large number of individual prints making the site the largest Kunichika resource online.

Toshidama Gallery’s blog at WordPress has published eighteen major articles this year on ukiyo-e and Japanese culture and our blog at eblogger has published eleven lengthy articles about technical and historical aspects of Japanese prints.

2013 sale of prints at Toshidama Gallery opens on the 4th of January 2013.
